I want to talk to you today about why if you have just started out with your Facebook marketing that it doesn’t convert like the gurus.
If you’re an online business owner, entrepreneur, even a local business owner that’s trying to get online in the internet space you may follow some gurus, and these are people that typically have a lot of money, they have a lot of followers, and they have a lot of success.
And you may think that if you follow them and you see their results that you’re going to learn a tonne of stuff and expect the same results in your business.
A perfect example of this is when you see a particular guru post screenshots of their bank account or they post screenshots of their Facebook ads and they show how they spent $25 and then they’ve made $5,000, right? And you see this enormous ROI going on and you think, “Well, that’s incredible. I want to do that in my business. I want to spend $50 and make $5,000.”
The problem when we follow gurus and we look at their bank accounts and their screenshots and we get really excited and then we get really disappointed when it doesn’t work is because there’s a lot going on behind the scenes that you don’t see that makes those numbers work the way they do.
So I’m going to give you an example of a Facebook ad. If you’re following someone who runs Facebook ads and they’re showing you screenshots of this incredible ROI I want you to consider the following.
Number one, when an ad account is seasoned, when the pixel is seasoned and they’ve run a lot of ads and they’ve got a lot of engagement, Facebook understands what kind of people enjoy the guru’s ads. So the ads usually automatically get approved and they usually convert better than a brand new ad account. So that’s the first thing.
The second thing is that if that guru is running lots of ads, spending several hundred dollars a day let’s say, they are also getting an incredible amount of brand visibility. So if I go in my news feed and I see a webinar or a workshop from somebody that I’ve never seen before I’m going to be a lot more sceptical to click on the ad. Then if I see an ad in my newsfeed and I’m like, “Oh yeah, I saw that guy over here and I saw that guy over here. Oh yeah yeah yeah.” You start to recognise their brand and you’re more inclined to opt in.
So our ads perform better now that we’ve been doing ads a while, and people opt in faster in part because we’re doing all this other stuff on the side. Like for example, If you a running a Facebook group with a lot of people they see your photo in an ad and they remember, “Oh, that’s Matt,” they’re more inclined to opt in more quickly. If you do Facebook lives, write blog posts, guest podcasts and interviews, and all these things build brand awareness and visibility and make your ads more likely to convert.
So if you see that kind of crazy ROI chances are it’s not just some secret tactic that you aren’t getting, it’s more about the entire digital marketing strategy. And I have lots of people who all me and say, “Oh, I saw ROI on X Y and Z, and I want this in my business.” And my first response is always, “What are you willing to do to get it? Are you willing to build an attractive character? Are you willing to build a brand? Are you willing to show up ? It doesn’t really matter, you have to do something, you have to show up somehow in some way.”
So why it doesn’t work like the gurus is because you’re probably trying to employ one small tactic in isolation, and then you’re getting really discouraged when it doesn’t function or produce the results that you’re seeing in the people that you follow. So again, when you see gurus and they’re talking about how much money they’re making and they’re talking about their particular business, you may be trying to grow your business or you may be trying to grow a service provider business, and you’re following someone who’s making the bulk of their money doing coaching and courses and mentorship. And of course you’re going to feel discouraged because what you can make as a service provider is different than what you can make when you build a brand an attractive character and you start selling courses.
So after saying that for someone new they need to first build brand visibility. And we all want the quick fix, we all want the fast acting funnel. And the truth is that you can actually get there much more quickly with the right funnels, with the right ad strategies, you can get there more quickly for sure. It took me 8 years to position myself in the industry and could I position myself better with more exposure. Hell yes, and I know I probably could have cut that time in half had employed some of the strategies that I figured out several years down the road. So it’s definitely possible but there’s nothing formulaic really about this.
This is really about how well do you connect with your audience, what are you willing to do? And I will tell you what, people can tell immediately if you are in it for just the money or if you’re in it if you really want to make an investment as a brand and a business owner. They will be able to tell immediately.
And so that’s my advice for you today. Don’t get discouraged. If you don’t see your stuff working like the gurus because chances are you haven’t also done all of that back, back and foundational work that you need to do to get where you need to go. You need a following of people who are now. It takes a while to get there, and yes you can speed up the machine with Facebook ads and funnels, but you can have the slow way or the fast way.
So that’s what I’m attempting to do for people now. Whether you’re a small business or whether you want to build courses, I want to help you speed up that learning curve. But I also want to show you all of the other things that you need to do to really build a brand so that you can get that crazy ROI that you see from the gurus that are amazing and awesome.
We are living in like the gold rush of the internet right now. And we have lots and lots of opportunity. But it is an investment, it is worth commitment. So don’t be discouraged.
The thing that I want to tell you is I have a brand new Online Class. So I see this as a very very effective track to wealth, and I also see it in a lot of the gurus. They start as a service provider, doing something for others. Whether its Facebook ads or Sales funnels or building, they do it for others. And then they quickly turn their expertise and do it for themselves and they do it for their own products and courses that they want. But again, there’s a bigger picture.
So if you’re interested in either being a digital marketer as a service provider, so you want to make some money, you want to build some funnels, you want to do ads, you want to do the things that you know you need to do to get really good at online business, or if you already are a coach, a consultant, maybe you already have courses that you’re interested in selling and they’re just not selling, chances are it’s because you don’t understand the whole digital marketing foundation.
